Cheryl Mora, DDS

Dr. Cheryl Mora completed her Undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University and earned her D.D.S. degree from University of Illinois at Chicago. She practiced as a Registered Nurse for five years at a hospital in Chicago while completing dental school. She is Immediate Past President of the Chicago Component of the Illinois Academy of General Dentistry, and will be Secretary of the Illinois AGD starting in January 2010. She is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, and the Chicago Dental Society.

Drs. Cheryl and Michael have two children, Brad 18 years old, and Cassie 16 years old. Dr. Cheryl enjoys reading, cooking, and tinkering with computers.

Michael Mora, DDS

Dr. Michael Mora grew up in Skokie and completed his Undergraduate studies at Loyola University. He earned his DDS degree from University of Illinois at Chicago in 1983. He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Illinois Dental Society, and the Chicago Dental Society.

Drs. Michael and Cheryl Mora have two children, Brad 18 years old, and Cassie 16 years old. Dr. Michael enjoys racquetball, and listening to music.

Dr. Mora has been involved in dentistry for over half his lifetime. He loves it more everyday; working with his wonderful staff makes this possible.

Paul Smulson, DDS

Dr. Smulson graduated from Loyola Dental School in 1979 and from Loyola School of Oral Surgery in 1982. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, the Chicago Dental Society, and the Dental Anesthesia Association.

Dr. Smulson has two daughters and enjoys sports, photography, music, and jogging.

My name is Judee and I've been a dental hygienist for 32 years - 23 of them here at Hawthorn Dental Associates. Our goal is to provide quality, caring state-of-the-art dental treatment to all of our patients. Equally important is the warm, friendly environment we provide. We strive to overcome patients' anxiety and fear and make dental appointments a positive and enjoyable experience.

Over the years patients have gotten to know me and have watched my children grow up. My son is a golf professional in Santa Barbara and my daughter is in her third year of dental school here in Chicago.

Hawthorn Dental Associates, my co-workers, and our patients have become my second family. We care about our patients and it shows.

Registered Dental Hygienist

Hello, my name is Lisa. I have worked for H.D.A. since 1996. I attended hygiene school at the College of Lake County and graduated in 2003. I have "grown up" in this practice as I have been a patient here since I was 11 years of age. I began working here at 15 as a clerical assistant, eventually becoming a dental assistant. Now as a hygienist I feel I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the various areas of dentistry. I look forward to sharing this knowledge with my patients on a daily basis.

I'm getting married in November to my fiance Ben, and we look forward to starting a family someday. When I'm not working I enjoy sporting events, and cheering on my beloved Cubbies!

Maureen,
Office Manager

Maureen has been the Office Manager at Hawthorn Dental Associates since 1990. She is responsible for managing the office & financial affairs in the office. She attends continuing education seminars & webinars on a regular basis and has been attending the Chicago Midwinter Dental meeting for 18 years. Maureen is a member of the American Dental Association of Dental Office Managers.

She enjoys working at Hawthorn Dental Associates because of the fun and relaxed atmosphere created by her coworkers and the patients. The relationships she has built with her patients (both personally and professionally) are very rewarding. When she sees laughter that is shared between her team members and patients, she knows the patients are having a good experience in the office.

Maureen has been married to Steve for 21 years. She has 2 boys, Connor 15 years old, and Blain 13 years old. She is very active with their school & sports activities. Maureen is an Officer on the School Board and is a committee member on several fundraisers.

Hello, I'm Sylvi. I've been working at Hawthorn Dental Associates since 1994. I am the Clinical Assistant Coordinator. My responsibilities include managing and training the dental assistants and assisting the doctors with procedures and lab work.

I have been married to my wonderful husband Jeff since 1975. I have a son, Jason who is married to Sally, and they have 3 wonderful children, Jeffery-4 1/2, Ethan-2 and Lilly-18 months. I also have a daughter Jennifer who was recently married to Mike in September 2009.

My name is Sherry and I have been with Hawthorn Dental Associates since 1994. I work at the front desk as the Insurance and Marketing coordinator. I love the interaction with our patients. I am devoted to making sure that every patient's experience at H.D.A. is a good one. I also schedule and participate in various presentations throughout Lake County. I am committed to educating the community about dentistry and recent research that has discovered how oral health impacts our entire body. Our efforts with senior adults and children have been particularly rewarding.
I find it very satisfying to work at a job where the goals are to help people look and feel better about themselves. Also to perform services that helps them maintain their overall good health and well being.

Hello, my name is Monique and I have been with Hawthorn Dental Associates since 1993. As Patient Coordinator, my responsibilities include greeting patients, scheduling appointments, coordinating insurance, addressing patient's questions and concerns and formulating treatment plans.

I enjoy working at HDA very much. Working with a great group of dedicated, friendly and patient-oriented people has proven to be very rewarding for me. I especially enjoy the close relationships we develop with our patients. We here at Hawthorn Dental Associates believe that every visit to our office should be a pleasant experience!

Aside from my second family here at HDA, I am the mother of two wonderful kids, Bianca age 21 and Derik age 19.

My background is in accounting. Even though I only work part time, Hawthorn Dental Associates is considered my third home.
